U.S. FCC transitions from Pyongyang design to content rich website

I write about strategies to turn fans into customers and customers into fans. I also share ways to use real-time strategies to spread ideas, influence minds, and build business.

I needed to visit the FCC site this weekend and was expecting to interact with the old Spartan 1995-era North Korea style site.

Holy cow! There’s been a redesign!

Fcclogo The new site provides a welcome graphical upgrade and includes access to a blog (with byline articles from staffers) some video content such as this video blog post from FCC Chairman Genachowski from when he visited two small towns in Nebraska that illustrate the opportunities created by broadband for those who have it.

In case you didn't know, the Federal Communications Commission regulates interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories.

There's a popular @FCC Twitter feed too (400,000+ followers).

While I think the redesign is good and the content a great start, the features that they promote on the site could be more than an afterthought. The several video features that were promoted were shot in January.

An interesting aspect of the new site is a facility for people to comment on the redesign and offer suggestions for improvement. Others can vote up suggestions. FCC new media staff can comment and provide information on the upgrades they’ve done or are planning.

If you've got a site redesign planned, check out the old FCC site (which is still available).
