I spent yesterday morning with Allan Schoenberg, who is Director of Corporate Communications for the CME Group, the world's largest derivatives marketplace (futures exchange).
We spent most of our time on the historic trading floor of the Chicago Board of Trade, the first organized futures exchange, founded in 1848.
Allan has a really cool job. Imagine working in corporate communications in what I think of as "the center of the news universe."
Please take about 7 minutes to watch this fascinating video interview.
Note it may take a few moments to load. Direct link here.
Allan discusses how he works with the media, his media and social media monitoring. He has moved beyond just monitoring what is happening with CME Group to looking at issues that matter in the economy. This information is used for new product development, customer-facing teams, researchers.
Alan's team is also responsible for content creation including the @CMEGroup twitter feed with more than 750,000 followers as of this writing. Traders, journalists, and analysts follow them. A great example of brand journalism.
Watch this blog later in the week for another interesting interview from the trading floor.

Nice interview. Allan's a great guy who's continually doing new and innovative things to make social media work for CME Group. What's more is the fact that he's doing it at a public company in a highly regulated industry.

David -- Thanks again for the opportunity to connect and talk about the exchange and how social media is influencing our business and customers/traders.

Thanks for the interview with Allan - I've been following him for a while since so many folks think that Social Media is out of reach for reg'd industries. Would love to see more deep dives on this topic both in finance & pharma as the opportunities arise.
Happy Holidays!

David, excellent video; Allan is doing a great job. That an organization founded in 1848 is still around and using the latest technology is absolutely cool! Thanks for sharing.

Great article. I like the application of trends to determine content, and the use of the 70/30 rule. We forget - its all about the reader, not us!
