Nick Morgan asks: "Why is most public speaking so awful? Why do we subject our fellow human beings to this form of torture when there are so many better things we could all be doing, like cutting our toenails, baking snickerdoodles, or watching re-runs of The Prisoner?"
Nick is the author of my favorite book on public speaking Trust Me: Four Steps to Authenticity and Charisma.
I have worked closely with Nick on improving my speaking skills. He knows what he is talking about!
Nick just released a ChangeThis manifesto called Before You Open Your Mouth: The Keys to Great Public Speaking. If you do any public speaking at all, you should read this (totally free) manifesto.
"Why is most public speaking so awful? Beyond soulless venues and Death by Power Point, speakers make the same four mistakes over and over again, continuing the sorry state of the art."
Download Before You Open Your Mouth: The Keys to Great Public Speaking and learn what the four mistakes are (and how to avoid them).

Thanks for the free download - I'll be learning all about public speaking - I'm one of those terrible public speakers (actually I avoid it at all costs - lets see if this manifesto can change that!)

Having had the pleasure to see you implement these suggestions many times over the past year, it's clear that structuring a presentation with these principles makes you stand out amidst a crowded stage.

Thanks Richard. I really appreciate you saying that. (So will Nick).

I have the greatest admiration for all speakers, so long as everybody gives it their best shot. Thanks for this opportunity to discuss. Rgds Vince

Excellent reminder that whether written or spoken, vitriol and sarcasm have no place in the practice of law.

Having had the pleasure to see the application of this advice many times during the last few years, it is clear that the design of a presentation of these principles allows to distinguish among a cluttered scene.
