New complimentary e-book - The new rules of PR: How to create a press release strategy for reaching buyers directly
The Web has changed the rules for press releases. The thing is, most old-line PR professionals just don’t know it yet. But YOU need to understand the new rules. To help you, I just published a complimentary e-book called: The new rules of PR: How to create a press release strategy for reaching buyers directly. Please download it and pass it on.
Because the rules for relating to the public have changed so slowly over the past ten years (since the Web has allowed people to read press releases directly), practitioners who learned based on the old rules have been equally slow to change. In fact, most old-school experts have refused to change altogether. It is time to step it up and consider the promise Web 2.0 public relations holds.
Today, savvy marketing professionals use press releases to reach buyers directly.
While many marketing and PR people understand that press releases sent over the wires appear in near real-time on services like Google News, very few understand the implications for how they must dramatically alter their press release strategy in order to maximize the effectiveness of the press release as a direct consumer-communication channel.
The media has been disintermediated. The Web has changed the rules. Buyers read your press releases directly and you need to be talking their language.
This is not to suggest that media relations are no longer important; mainstream media and the trade press must be part of an overall communications strategy. In some businesses, mainstream media and the trade press remain critically important and, of course, the media still derives some of its content from press releases.
But your primary audience is no longer just a handful of journalists. Your audience is millions of people with Internet connections and access to search engines and RSS readers.
Download my complimentary e-book The new rules of PR: How to create a press release strategy for reaching buyers directly and see for yourself what all the buzz is about.

Hi David,
I agree that the new media landscape is changing the way PR professionals do and will need to operate in the future.
It will be interesting to see which companies adapt and use blogs and other direct means of engaging with their buyers/potential buyers.
Judging by some of the press releases that come over my desk see http://surpliceofspin.blogspot.com/2006/01/why-pr-people-annoy-journalists.html on a regular basis though, I do wonder if some PR professionals are still missing the basic premise that they should target their communications appropriately to the audience they wish to engage.
In any case, thanks for the tips and tricks in the book.
regards,
Melanie

David,
I stumbled across your blog in researching how to promote my blog www.oninteriordesign.com. I have a PR person writing a press release for me, but after that we're taking it in-house so finding your ebook today could not be more timely. I'll make more key words are added and include a link too. It was also a great reminder to add the press release to my web site. I already emailed my web guy to change the template. In the interior design business, some brag they never advertisze, or all their business is word of mouth. While I have my fair share of word of mouth business, I have done very well with Internet marketing and advertising....the blog is my newest trial. Anyway thanks for this information. It's helpful, really helpful.
Do you think I should just post to the free PR services and see how that goes before doing the paid ones?

Thanks for reading. My opinion is that with free services you get what you pay for. The important thing is to get the release onto Google News, Yahoo News, vertical market sites, portals, and RSS feeds so your buyers find it through searching and browsing. You really can't do that with typical free services.

Thank you David, I just read your e-book and downloaded it to my desktop. Your book is a quick easy read, has good content and is very informative, for novice marketers wishing to write their own press release.
I actually came across your e-book "The new rules of PR: How to create a press release strategy for reaching buyers directly", because I have just written my own e-book "The Secret to Financial Freedom" and I was looking for inspiration as to what to write for my own e-book press release.
My new e-book "The Secret to Financial Freedom" is written for the Novice-Newbie Online Marketer. My e-book outlines what to look for when researching an online profitable home based business, the importance of a personal mentor/coach, and why so many online home businesses fail in their first year because of lack of advertising and marketing experience.

Hi David
This is the second time that I am coming across your e-book. Once I got through Google and the other time through Marketingsherpa.
Can you tell me more about how to promote content through viral marketing. There is hardly any budget allocated for it, but I can look into it.
Also, are there any specific ways to promote e-books. Would appreciate a response from you.

I just downloaded the book. I learned about it through the webinar on Press Releases for Modern Inbound Marketing. I can't wait to put this stuff to good use. Thanks for the information. I took a great bit of notes because sometimes you think you know enough about Press Releases and everything else, but then you learn something else and it makes sense. Thanks again.

I'm not sure what the hold-up is... maybe they have re-thought their stance on how this is going to actually make the company any money. Or perhaps their lawyers pointed out the liability of providing agents a platform to stick their feet in their mouth. Whatever it is, it's hardly something I'd claim as being "Well done".
